Christian Video Library Website to Launch (octillion)

A new website is to be launched at this year's Hillsong Conferance. It will be a library of Australian and international video content which can be purchased and downloaded at near TV quality. There is also a category for free content.

The site (www.octillion.tv) is online right now. The concept sounds promising to me. Video is certainly a medium that the church needs to be using more and more. In our culture, TV and film are two of the most Influential things around. AT first glance the site looks like a good framework for delivering video, and will be especially useful to those who do not have access to Christian television.

It occurs to me that a logical extension might be to give the ability for ameteur Christian film-makers to contribute their own content. The problem that stems from this of course is monitoring the quality and suitability of the content.

I am going to keep an eye on this one.

Door Of Hope Vision Launch 2010

On Sunday, held their Vision 2010 launch.
Our mission is to be a door of hope through Jesus Christ, in a fragile and uncertain world.

The vision was centered around our 6 key values (in order):
  • Powerful Prayer

  • Passionate pursuit of lost people

  • Positive caring community

  • Persistent personal growth

  • Purposeful living

  • Profitable stewardship

God has been impressing on us to be more "others focused" with an emphasis on the unsaved and the poor.

The vision was very much based on a culture where Christ-like characteristics are developed. The launch was carried out with little in the way of hype but a lot of passion. I think it's a very sciptural vision. There are exciting days ahead and I'm very enthusiastic.

Not 'Just another Thing'

In an article called'Part Time Christianity', Howard E. Butt made the following statement.
Christianity is not a way of doing special things; it’s a special way of doing everything.

I thought this was a great quote. Our relationship with Jesus isn't just another item on the list of things in our life. It should be the one thing that influences everything in our life.

Trust Me

The other night we decided to take some food home to share with my friend Greg. There is a chinese restaurant in town that does good takeaway. We've had sit-down meals there before. We walked in and looked over the menu. After making our decision we placed our order and then left the building. Greg was going to wait for the food and we were heading home straight away so we could settle the kids.

As we walked out, our two-year old daughter began to cry. Soon she was in hysterics. I realised why she was crying. We had left the restaurant without having anything to eat. She remembered that place. She knew that you get food there, she remembered that it was a fun place to be. She was hungry and she didn't understand why we had walked in and then walked back out again.

Unfortunately, you can't explain these things to a two-year old. I wanted to let her know that Greg was going to bring the food to our house in a little while, but she couldn't comprehend. All I could do was put her in her car seat, look into her eyes and say "Trust me."

At that moment - it hit me - just how like my daughter I can be sometimes. Jesus said "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?"* Sometimes God will give us something that looks initially like a stone. It seems like a big letdown - not at all what we were expecting. It's times like this when I have been exactly like my daughter, and God was looking at me saying "Trust me.". I was just too busy making a fuss to notice.

Sometimes we just need to accept that God sees more than we do, that His ways are higher than ours, and maybe it won't be so bad, just not what we expect. Sometimes we just need to trust Him.

It made me think.

Discoveries From Space

It seems that archeologists have found some new ruins from space by looking at satelite imagery. (View full news article)

This raises a question. Could an ordinary person make an important discovery from home using technologies such as Google Earth? Well apparently so, since somebody did.
