I So Hate Consequences

Relient K sing a called "I so Hate Consequences". I identified with this song last week. I was suffering the consequences of not going to the Dentist for eleven years. I had a rather dodgy tooth that needed a massive filling. Afterward, I was experiencing a lot of pain and needed anti-biotics to clear it up. I might still need a root canal in the future.

Needless to say I am being much better this things now. I can't undo the mistakes of the past but I make sure I don't keep doing them. Unfortunately, the consequences still remain.

It occurs to me that sin is a bit like that. When we truly repent, we receive forgiveness and change our ways. The future doesn't have to be the same as the past. However, the consequences can remain, and sometimes they can hurt.

There is a good side to consequences however, They motivate us to change, to seek help and forgiveness, just like a sore tooth that you can no longer ignore.

Compassion

Something that has been on my mind and my heart lately is Compassion. Specifically, how lacking ours often is when compared to God's.

A quick search for compassion on www.dictionary.com reveals a number of definitions from many sources. Most seem to have two components:
  • An awareness of, or sympathy for the suffering of another.

  • The desire or motivation to do something about relieving that suffering.
Both parts are important. Without the second, it is not really compassion at all.

I plan to make the time to conduct a study of what the Bible has to say on compassion. Imagine what the world could be like if we had more of it.
